ECIU University Forum 2026: “Futuremakers: Educating for Impact”

Important | 2026-06-22

On June 16–17, I had the opportunity to participate in the ECIU University Forum 2026 “Futuremakers: Educating for Impact”, hosted by the University of Aveiro, Portugal. It was an inspiring experience that combined learning, international collaboration, and meaningful engagement with the ECIU community from across Europe.

The ECIU University Forum is an annual event that brings together students, staff, teachers, and societal partners from all ECIU member institutions. This year’s theme, “Futuremakers: Educating for Impact,” encouraged discussions on how higher education can contribute to real societal change and empower individuals and communities to transform ideas into meaningful actions.

This edition of the Forum gathered around 270 participants, creating an open and inspiring environment for exchanging ideas, sharing experiences, and discussing the future of higher education in Europe.

Over the course of two days, participants had the opportunity to choose and attend six different sessions, each offering unique perspectives and practical insights. The programme featured a variety of interactive formats designed to encourage participation and collaboration.

Panel Discussions brought together experts from different backgrounds to explore key topics related to education, innovation, and international cooperation. Lightning Talks provided concise and inspiring presentations showcasing innovative ECIU projects and educational initiatives. At the same time, Skills Training Sessions focused on interactive learning and the practical application of knowledge, while Networking Sessions encouraged participants to build connections and develop future collaborations.

For me personally, the Forum was much more than attending sessions. It was an opportunity to meet students and colleagues from partner universities, hear inspiring stories about how ECIU activities have positively impacted people’s lives, and gain new perspectives on education, innovation, and collaboration.

As both a student and an ECIU Community Coordinator, I returned home with valuable insights that I believe will contribute to both my academic growth and professional development.

I am grateful to ECIU University for providing such an enriching experience and for creating a space where ideas can become actions. I would also like to thank the University of Aveiro for its excellent organization and warm hospitality.

“Once again, I realized that ECIU University is much more than acquiring knowledge. It is an opportunity to create real impact, collaborate with people from across Europe, learn from one another, and become part of shaping future solutions. Experiences like this demonstrate that higher education is not only about theory but also about creating meaningful change in society.”
