This semester I participated in ECIU micro-module “Soft Skills” at University of Trento. It was an amazing and truly valuable experience. The programme had blended study format as well as it consisted of four different micromodules: Basics of Social Challenges, Communicating Innovation, Master Mind and Soft Skills Beyond Research taught by professors from the University of Trento. The in-person part of the programme took place in Trento from April 20 to 24, together with several additional online classes before and after the mobility week.
There were around 40 participants from many different countries such as: Lithuania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Italy together with Romania. This international environment made the programme not only academically interesting but also a great cultural experience. It was very interesting to meet students from different backgrounds, exchange ideas as well as to work together throughout the week.
We completed different practical assignments and group activities during lectures and workshops. For example, we worked on presentations in teams, developed communication and collaboration skills as well as practiced public speaking. One of the assignments was to create an elevator pitch and later expand it into a business presentation where we had to present and explain a business idea. Moreover¸ we worked on improving our CVs and discussed important soft skills that are useful both in academic life and future careers. Simultaneously, another assignment was to create a one-week personal sprint focused on building new habits together with improving productivity, which we tried to implement throughout the week in Trento.
We still had enough free time to enjoy the experience outside the classroom, even though the schedule was quite intensive, with many lectures, assignments, and homework tasks. We explored the beautiful city of Trento as well as visited Lake Garda together, where we enjoyed the amazing views and had a wonderful time. Of course, we also experienced Italian cuisine, including pizza, gelato, and many other local specialties.
Overall, this programme was a very enriching experience both academically and personally. It helped me to improve my communication, teamwork, presentation as well as self-management skills, simultaneously I meet incredible people from across Europe. I am truly grateful to ECIU and the University of Trento for providing such an amazing opportunity and organizing such an inspiring programme. Furthermore, I encourage everyone to become a part of ECIU and select your challenge or micro-module!
