I participate in the Tech and the City Challenge at the University of Aveiro. When I chose the ECIU challenge, the Internet of Things, 5G technologies and improving urban infrastructure using the collected data seemed very interesting topics; therefore, I decided to participate. I like this challenge because there are no strict requirements for the development of the solution: the teams choose the specific problem for which they are developing a solution. In addition, we are working with Altice Labs, a company that develops innovative products for the telecommunication and information technology market. Representatives from the company consult us on various issues. I found the challenge-based learning method itself quite interesting and a natural way of looking at problems and solving them: you specify the problem, formulate the arising questions and synthesise a solution. I would recommend other students to participate in the challenge if they find a topic that they feel genuinely interested in and are ready to delve deeper into the issues of the challenge and deepen their technical solution design skills.
